The Oceanis 50 is a comfort cruiser designed for those who value relaxed and enjoyable sailing. Reaching a speed of 7.8 knots on a reach in 10 knots of wind, it offers pleasant performance for leisurely voyages. However, it is not an upwind flyer, reaching 6.3 knots upwind in the same wind conditions, and its downwind performance is modest, partly due to a modest-sized asymmetric spinnaker. The large genoa relative to the mainsail enhances its power when sailing close-hauled.
